The country like India is already facing the scarcity of ‘potable water’ due to pollution of water body, encroachment of catchment area of water body, dwindling of water sources and over-exploitation of ground water etc. The country is heading towards ‘water less zones’, due to either improper water management system or absence of water management system. By keeping burning issues in mind, City Managers’ Association Karnataka (CMAK) is aiming to strengthen the surface and ground water availability in urban areas of Karnataka and for which, it has chosen the Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) as the alternative for all sorts of water crisis (remedy). It has also taken up the measures to inculcate RWH Techniques into common man. Accordingly, CMAK is striving hard to educate the citizens and personnel of the Urban Local Bodies in Karnataka. The implementation package is consisting of following activities:
Workshop/ Interaction session: CMAK organizes workshops on Rainwater Harvesting, Waste water treatment, Waste water Reuse, Water distribution system etc. for Municipal personnel. Interaction sessions, Study visits to site etc. will also be added for better understanding.
RWH Trainings: CMAK is planning to take up the ‘Training activities’ in phased manner for ULBs. The target group is concerned Technical person from ULB, prominent Architects, Plumbers, and Leaders from Citizen Group etc.
RWH Trainers Manual: This manual deals with the Target group from each ULB, in order to learn, train-up & implement the RWH technology at local level. The technology has been simplified to make even common man understand.
RWH User Manual: This manual is prepared by keeping the interest of common man at various levels. The manual depicts about collection, transportation, storage, utilization and recharging of the harvested rain water into ground.
Parivarthane: A bimonthly topical paper is being published by keeping ULBs staff as target group. Various issues pertaining to water & water conservation will be highlighted to understand the gravity.
IEC Material: Information Dissemination activities are going on with the help of Indigenously prepared materials like Slogans, Hoarding write-up, Quotations, Poetry, Slide show, Short movies etc. on Rainwater harvesting. Several timely in-house discussions/ demonstrations are also being held with KSAS/ KAS probationers and identified ULB staff, in order to implement the RWH activities
